So you’ve got the flowers, the décor, the ceremony, the venue, and the outfits down – but what about the wedding party? It’s traditional to give your hard-working bridesmaids and groomsmen little gifts in exchange for their party-planning and group therapy expertise, but these gifts typically get left to the last minute thanks to the hectic nature of wedding planning. You want something personalized, but more unique than a glorified nametag, right? It may sound crazy, but how about gifting them some knives?
In this day and age, knives are true luxury items. We don’t seem to think we need them, but pocketknife owners are happy to tell us that they use them for everything! In and of themselves, knives’ surprising usefulness and cool factor make them the perfect gift for your wedding party. For an even stronger impression, get them engraved knives.
Most companies are totally happy to engrave anything on the blades or handles of their knives, as long as you’re realistic about what you want. You probably can’t get a knife with the entirety of Anna Karenina etched onto its blade, and you might want to consult an honest-to-god elf if you need a message written in Elvish. However, personalized initials and names or “Jan and Liz 2013” would work really well. Just think: every time your brother-in-law slices an apple, he’ll remember the awesome time he had helping you at your wedding!
On that note, you shouldn’t feel like this is a men-only gift. (Though if your bridesmaids would prefer jewelry instead, more power to them.) People in general can have tons of uses for pocketknives, especially if they ever camp, make art, or open packages. There are some beautiful pocketknives out there that people of every gender will love!
You can get more than just the standard pocketknife, too, if you want to give your wedding party something more adventurous. How many people can say that they have a personalized Bowie knife in their collection? Those would be really popular as either hunting or display knives. If your wedding has a woodsy or rugged theme, a personalized hunting knife would make for an amazing thematic gift. Or if you’re part of or marrying into a family of police officers, get your party some personalized tactical or boot knives! They would also have the benefit of helping people sort out which ones are theirs.
A useful gift that your wedding party will use every day will be a lot more memorable and cherished than something that is easy to toss aside. Help them remember your special day with an engraved knife!
